Findings

This patient has suffered a fracture. The fracture was caused by something that is also visible in this x-ray. Look at both x-ray views.

  1. Can you determine the type of fracture?

    Greenstick fracture

    Incorrect. The cortex is completely broken. Try again.
    Buckle fracture

    Incorrect. There is no evidence of a buckle fracture.
    Comminuted transverse fracture

    Correct! This patient has suffered a gunshot wound that has shattered the humerus into multiple segments. Fragments of the bullet are still visible in the lateral portion of the patient's arm.
    Pathologic fracture

    Incorrect. There is no evidence that this patient had underlying bone disease that contributed to the fracture.
